Green Around The House

Green Around The House -

Just a few tips to help you save money and be green around the home.

Unplug Electrical Appliances when not being used

Many of us are guilty of leaving mobile phones charging when not in use overnight or leaving tv's on standby, turning these devices off will save you money and will also significantly improve your carbon footprint score!

didyouknow

That leaving your TV on standby can use as much as 40% as much of that being used when it's turned on?

Estimated annual CO2 emissions from devices left on standby:
Stereos - 1,600,000 tonnes
Videos - 960,000 tonnes
TVs - 480,000 tonnes
Consoles - 390,000 tonnes
DVD players - 100,000 tonnes
Set-top boxes - 60,000 tonnes

Use your appliances economically

Washing Machine -Wait tiill you have a full load of washing to do before you put the washing machine on, also use a quality powder/detergent that will allow you to wash your clothes at a lower temperature,

Fridge Freezer - keeping a fridge freezer full will use less energy than an empty one, also refrain from opening it up unless you need to (it might help you cut calories as well as emissions!).

Energy Saving Lightbulbs

It might sound obvious as it's been in the news so much but Energy Saving Lightbulbs really are the way to go to save the environment and your pocket, not only do these significantly reduce your electric bills but each bulb last up to 8 years so less balancing on chairs changing them too!

Turn down the Thermostat

To save up to 5% on your annual energy bills on top of the eco savings you just need to knock down your thermostat a setting less than you usually have it.

Put a water saving device in your cistern
